April 1867 UPRR Crew: Congratulations!!! Thanks for solving the problem of getting our supplies here. Having barges carry the rail supplies across the Missoui River is a great idea. I wish there was a bridge over the Missouri River, but that will have to wait. [A bridge would not cross the Missouri River until 1872. Until that time all of the passengers and freight had to be taken off of the train, carried on barges across the river, and loaded back onto another train.4] |
