Railroad Town Map of Rocklin, CA early 1900's

Rocklin, California Map

Blueprint map of the town of Rocklin in Placer County, California.  It is undated but was probably produced as part of the real estate operations of the Pacific Improvement Co. (the PIC) in the early 1900's.  This company was formed in 1878 by the "Big Four" - Crocker, Huntington, Stanford and Hopkins - to administer the real estate holdings of the Central Pacific and later the Southern Pacific Railroads and was dissolved around 1915. Many towns in California and Nevada were established by the PIC when they bought a large square of land where the railroad was coming, had it surveyed and subdivided, reserving a large parcel in the middle of the town for a depot and other railroad buildings, then sold the lots to people from all over the United States and the world. The map shows all of the parcels watercolored in red, probably showing original PIC holdings. Shows locations of railroad buildings on the Central Pacific RR line including the roundhouse. The map is printed in white on a heavy blueprint paper.  The map is 20 3/4" X 25 1/4". Detail below. (locate find Rocklin California CA Wadsworth Carlin Wells Nevada)
