When we reached Reno I sent the following message to Ben Welch:
That flanger is a ripper. It tore a stream of ice over the telegraph wires.

After this 2 more cars were equipped with the same flangers.
At Truckee in our own shop we made a little change in the flanger by cutting away the out side sills of the car reenforcing the sill with a bar of iron where cut away, that interfered with throwing all the ice.
