Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Trust Stock Certificate, 1899

This 1899 Preferred Trust Stock certificate of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad represents 4,405.9 shares of preferred stock in the company to be held in trust until March, 1904.  At a book value of $100 a share, this certificate represents an investment of over $440,000 which would be the equivalent of several millions of Dollars today.  Chartered of February 28, 1827, the B&O was the first commercial passenger and freight railway in the United States.
