Woodcut Stereoviews of the Central Pacific RailroadSTATE LINE
276 miles from San Francisco – Altitude, 5130 feet.

Rare stereoviews printed from woodcuts. The origin of this type of view is unknown, and not seen previously. From a group of these that appear to be quite early (probably issued in the late 1870s or early 1880s). They are on thinner than normal stock, but not quite as thin as standard lithos. All railroad related and all are from early photographers of the CPRR and UPRR (Hart, Watkins, Russell, etc.) —Description courtesy Paul Rubinstein.
